There are so many reasons to love pies. Aside from making use of simple and easy to find ingredients, they take very little time to prepare and cook. Perfect for all occasions, it is good to cook and serve delicious pie crust recipes.

Pies find favor with most people with their pleasant taste and delectable flavors. Some of the common flavors which pies are cooked in, include turkey, pumpkin and cream cheese. They are easy to make and require very little time to prepare. Here are two simple and easy-to-make pie crust recipes that are sure to leave you wanting more.

Home-Made Style Pie Crust

For this recipe, you will need 2¼-cups of all-purpose flour, 5-tablespoons of cold water, a teaspoon of salt and ¾-cup of Crisco shortening. With the help of a pastry blender, cut the shortening into the flour. Add the salt and pour the water gradually in tiny amounts. Use a fork to toss the flour, finally ending up with small balls of equal size.

Cut each ball in the middle and then flatten each half just like pancakes. Each one should measure approximately 5 to 6 inches. Put some flour on each side. Dust your working area with flour. With the help of a silicone rolling pin, slowly roll the dough out to get a circular shape. After finishing on one side, flip the dough and roll it on the other side in a similar fashion.

For better control, it is good to roll the crust on wax paper or on a silicone baking sheet. In case the crust sticks, try to add more flour to prevent it from sticking. From the middle of the sheet, roll out the crust evenly in all directions. The end result should ideally be about an inch bigger than the pie plate. Carefully place the crust on the plate. Remove the wax paper or baking sheet, whichever it is that you used to roll it out. Press the pie lightly right onto the plate. Level the pie crust with the pie plate and carefully remove all the excess crust.

Moisten the edge slowly and then add the filling. Once a sufficient amount of filling is in, top it with another layer of crust so that it completely covers the filling. Ensure that the top crust is about an inch wider than the bottom part of the crust. Carefully fold the ends of the upper crust with the edges of the lower part. Try to do as neat a job as possible here. Create a small venting hole at the middle portion to release the steam. Alternatively, you could also create decorative slits to perform the same function.

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the pie crust inside and bake for around ten minutes, till well done!

Alternative Pie Crust Recipe

So, the recipe given above sounds too complicated? Fear not, brave chef, this next recipe is perfect especially for those who do not have the luxury of time to follow an elaborate pie recipe. The ingredients for this one are 2-cups of heaped flour, a full cup of milk, ½- to 2/3-cup of oil and a pinch of salt.

Get a nice, clean, large bowl and then pour in all the ingredients. Mix well until the ingredients are distributed evenly. Lay the wax paper and then put the dough on top of it. Smear butter evenly on top and add finely chopped nuts and cinnamon over the butter. Sprinkle some sugar on top and roll the dough out on its sides to form a pie shape. Set the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Put the pie crust inside and let it bake for around ten minutes or more.

More Points on Pie Crusts

Following these simple steps, you can find out that pie crusts are not only delicious, but more importantly they are very easy to prepare. Comprised of simple ingredients like oil, milk and flour, they require little time to cook. You can light up every occasion by allowing guests to experience the sweet and yummy taste of these delightful treats.
